Social Work Program Development

BDEP welcomed our first two interns from the Chico State School of Social Work in the 2022-2023 academic year. Their mission was to conduct research to support the development of best practices for the intersection of social work and criminal defense.  One intern worked to develop a local social services resource guide for defense attorneys and shadowed a public defender on multiple occasions. Another did outreach to holistic defense organizations throughout the nation, joined social workers support networks and attended trainings for social workers in California. Our work with Chico State is ongoing; we anticipate hosting interns at every opportunity.

We are also committed to ongoing collaboration with social work organizations throughout the United States.
